Every time I hear the word AI, I feel disgusted.

But on the other hand, I enjoy the benefits that it brings every day.

It has saved me so much time on debugging and researching.

I didn't really understand why I felt that way.

But I guess it's like a defence mechanism. There are way too many demo porn that exaggerate the usefulness of these tools.

Over time, it's like that story of the boy who cried wolf. I started to ignore every AI tool I see.

Plus, people are glazing these tools and saying things that I strongly disagree with.

I feel like when I accept that AI is useful, I'm also forced to accept all those bullsh*t claims.

I was so exhausted that I can't get excited about new technology anymore.

Then two events changed my perspective.

I had a friend who wanted to set up a home server with Docker. He had no idea how most of the stuff works, so he basically asked LLMs for everything.

As a dev, my first instinct is that he should learn how to do it properly without AI.

But before I said something, he said he was having fun.

This is his cool little hobby.

I forgot that not everyone has to learn to code, and not everyone wants to become a developer.

AI makes building passion projects easier for regular people.

I think it's a beautiful thing.

Maybe these "AI tools" aren't all evil.

The second event was Jev's release.

I rejected it like all other hot AI tools. But for some reason (I've wrote about this), I tried it.

It was one of the few "AI tools" that is not just hype or another Claude wrapper. It's actually cool and maybe useful.

I started wondering if there are more tools like this that I used to overlook because of my hatred towards AI.

The term AI is just misused too many times.

Machine learning engineers are now called AI engineers.

Every product now has some kind of AI in it.

This term has become so notorious that saying it has some positives is like saying that the atomic bomb is a great invention.

But artificial intelligence is just an umbrella term for machines that mimic human intelligence.

There are tools that are grouped under this term that could improve my life and maybe other people's.

I want to use those and those only.

I want to adapt tools that are useful to me, but still disagree with the bullsh*t other people say about AI.

To do that, I will try to run through a different lens whenever a new "AI" technology comes out.

Rather than picking a stance based on whether I'm pro-AI or anti-AI at the moment.

I just ask

  1. What does it do

  2. How does it serve me

You can use AI and hate the hype.
